Highlights From Our Week
Celebrating Our Last Week With Our Baby Chicks
Our last week with our baby chicks involved numerous activities which included designing chicken coops and creating Play-doh chicks. We also recorded our observations of the chicks on Seesaw. Throughout the week, we looked forward to holding and petting the chicks. We will greatly miss the symphony of chirping that we listened to each day.
Our Amazing Chicken Coops
The pictures below demonstrate teamwork, creativity, and problem solving while utilizing specific materials.
Day 1
Day 2 Please listen to your child record his/her chicken coop on Seesaw.
Displaying Our Creativity
The children created their own chicks using Play-doh, pipe cleaners, beads, toothpicks and feathers. The requirements for their chicks included eyes, a beak, body, down feathers, legs, toes, and an egg tooth. This activity provided an opportunity for the children to use their imagination as well as to strengthen their fine motor skills. In addition, their knowledge of a chick’s features is illustrated in their creations.
This week the children thoroughly enjoyed listening to this story. Rosie, the hen, leaves the chicken coop and sets out for a walk. Right behind her is the fox who is slyly trying to catch up with her. However, Rosie's walk is quiet and uneventful. Eventually, she returns to the coop unaware of the fox's struggles as he tries unsuccessfully to navigate the obstacle course that Rosie has led him through. This book provided an additional opportunity to review the purpose of a story map which emphasizes the key elements of a story. Retelling ensures comprehension and fosters imagination.
We re-listened to Rosie's Walk on Bookflix while completing the story map.
A New Home For Our Chicks
On Friday morning, the Carson family came to pick up our baby chicks in order to bring them to their new home in Wisconsin. The chicks are enjoying a wonderful life on the Carson family farm. Please enjoy the pictures of our chicks. Thank you to the Carson family for providing a new home for our chicks!
