Kindergarteners Enjoying Outdoor Play
Celebration of Outdoor Learning Day, May 18th.
Learning and playing outdoors provides the children with meaningful experiences. Learning outdoors also creates opportunities for lasting memories, helps to build a greater awareness of the environment, enables independent thinking, as well as offering challenges. Children are more active when they participate in outdoor activities which also leads to healthy development and enjoyment of childhood.

Bringing the Outdoors to the Indoors
The children engaged in another inspirational project from the Chicago Botanic Garden. They utilized pebbles from outside of our school in order to create masterpieces from nature.
We Welcome Our Baby Chicks!
Our Thematic Concept: "Observation Growth and Change," was brought to fruition by the birth of our baby chicks. The children experienced firsthand the birth of one of the chicks, prepared bedding for the brooder, and observed the chicks as they held them.
As they entered the classroom each day, they were excited to notice the growth and changes in our thirteen chicks.

Baby Chick, Lucky 13
Please ask your child about our miracle chick," Lucky 13," who was assisted by Mr. Hailpern out of his/her shell.
Our Math Task Involving Our Chicks
This week we included our chicks in our math tasks. I presented a different math task to the morning and afternoon class. I posed the following questions as shown below.
There are 12 chicks in the brooder, how many legs in all?
There are 4 chicks in the brooder, how many toes in all?
In order to solve the above math tasks, the children had to use a picture strategy to provide evidence for their answer.
Enjoy the beautiful day!
